Covina Relay for Life is this Saturday May 17th

The Relay for Life comes to Covina this Saturday, May 17th  at Northview High and starts at 9am! Join our city and get involved!

The Relay for Life lets people of all ages get involved and raise not only money, but also awareness, support, and most importantly, hope. The fight to end cancer is far from over, but events like the relay help raise funds and awareness to fund research that will hopefully one day end cancer. The hope that one day we will all live in a world without cancer is why we relay, thank you to everyone taking part in this year’s event to help eradicate this disease.

Together we can bring and end to cancer!

The Schedule:

Opening Ceremony: 9:00am

The Opening Ceremony brings everyone together for a high-energy event kickoff to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, to inspire hope by sharing recent accomplishments and progress, and to remind everyone that while we are winning this battle, fighting cancer is a year-round priority.

Survivors Lap: 9:30am

During the Survivors Lap, upbeat music plays as all cancer survivors at the event take the first lap around the track cheered on by the other participants who line the track, celebrating their victory over cancer.

Luminaria Ceremony: 8:00pm

The Luminaria Ceremony is a time to remember people we have lost to cancer, to support people who currently have cancer, and to honor people who have fought cancer in the past. The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to work through grief and find hope.

Fight Back: 9:00am

The Fight Back Ceremony symbolizes the emotional commitment we each make to the fight against cancer. The action we take represents what we are willing to do for ourselves, for our loved ones, and for our community to fight cancer year-round and to commit to saving lives.

Closing Ceremony: 9:00am

The Closing Ceremony is a time to remember the lives of those lost and to celebrate that each of us has committed, through our participation in a Relay event, to fight back against this disease over the next year.

Those of you that are participating, please send in your pictures and we will have a post of just the photos from this amazing event!

Stamp Out Hunger this Saturday May 10th!

On Saturday, May 10, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Food Drive will once again spread out across America to help provide assistance to Americans who are struggling with hunger. Stamp out Hunger

Now in its 22nd year, the Food Drive effort is the nation’s largest single-day drive. In 2013, 74.4 million pounds of food was collected, which brought the grand total of donations to just under 1.3 billion pounds of food collected over the history of the drive.

The need for food assistance remains a problem in America.

All you have to do to participate is place a bag of non-perishable food items out by your mailbox this Saturday for your letter carrier to pick up and it will be delivered to a local food bank or pantry.

For more information about the annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive effort in your community, ask your letter carrier, follow the drive at  www.twitter.com/StampOutHunger or visit www.nalc.org/food

Covina Residents Blog is Born!

Image

Hi Everyone!

I am so excited to be launching this brand new blog for Covina Residents! Some of you are already fans of the Covina Residents Facebook page but if you aren’t make sure you like the page, there is also a quick like button over on the left.

I am by no means an amazing writer, I’m actually a full time real estate Broker and owner of New Century Realtors & Associates right here in Covina, but I LOVE Covina. I grew up in Covina and am a current Covina Resident along with my husband, 2 boys, and 2 Furbabies (Roxy & Rocco).

The intention behind the blog is to keep Covina Residents notified about what is going on in our beautiful city. Summer is right around the corner and with that comes amazing programs for our children and us to enjoy. Who doesn’t love the Starlight Concert Series, Kids Night Out, and the Farmer’s Market?

I am also a big believer that we should be supporting our local Covina Small Businesses so keep an eye out for posts about Covina Businesses and Covina Restaurants. Yup, its going to be all about Covina all the time!

Make sure to get your friends to follow our blog and please let me know if you would like me to “Spotlight” anything in particular!
