Covina-Valley Goes Solar!

Over the past two years Covina-Valley has done remarkable work in reducing it’s water usage through the installation of artificial turf. We are now embarking on a new way for our District to save money and be environmentally responsible. This summer, thirteen of our sites in Covina-Valley will have solar panel structures installed.  These sites include Cypress, Grovecenter, Lark Ellen, Merwin, and Mesa Elementary; Las Palmas, Sierra Vista, and Traweek Middle; and Covina, Fairvalley, Northview, and South Hills High Schools; and the Trade-Tech Academy. Through installation of these solar structures, it is estimated that C-VUSD will save $333,387 in electricity charges in the first year of full implementation and potentially $15,251,000 over the next 20 years.

In addition to saving money on electricity costs for the District, these solar panel structures will have a variety of other benefits for our students, staff, and community. At several sites, the solar panels will provide cover and additional lighting for student and staff parking areas. Others sites will benefit from the structures providing shaded areas for students during break and lunches. At several of the high school sites, the solar panels will provide shade for students, staff and community members who attend outdoor sporting events.

National Night Out is August 4th 2015! Lets Make it a Great One Covina!

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. Together, we are making that happen in Covina.National Night Out 2015

National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community and provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Neighborhoods across the nation host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other various community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel and exhibits.

Every year its always so much fun to to see how many great Covina neighborhoods take the time to plan out National Night Out with their neighbors and even better is seeing all the posts of our amazing Covina Police Officers taking the time to stop by, shake hands, take pictures, and listen to Covina Residents.

Its a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors and make sure that everyone is on the same page as far as neighborhood safety. Bring out the BBQ’s, plan an ice cream social, get the kids together and enjoy a beautiful summer evening out with your neighbors!

Don’t forget to tag #CovinaResidents on your Facebook and Instagram posts! Lets see how our Covina Residents celebrate National Night Out!

Back 2 School Blast Needs YOUR Help!

2015-07-14 11_11_42-Hangouts - newcenturybroker@gmailDid you know that for the last 15 years Project 29:11 has hosted the annual Back 2 School Blast?

You might be asking yourself, What is the Back 2 School Blast? Its an awesome community event taking place on August 7th at Covina Park that distributes backpacks filled with school supplies to families who might not otherwise be able to afford these items for their kids on their own. Not only do these kids get new backpacks filled with school supplies but they also get free dental, vision and medical screenings which are so important for the health of these children.

As if that wasn’t enough Taco Bell has partnered with the Back 2 School Blast to offer a light meal to everyone and several of our local beauty colleges are providing free haircuts! There will also be fun for the kids, like free face painting, and their parents/caretakers can speak with agencies that can provide free services to these families. 2015-07-14 11_12_26-Hangouts - newcenturybroker@gmail

New Century Realtors-Covina has pledged to gather supplies that are going to go in these backpacks. Last year over 900 backpacks were given out to children and we are hoping to make it more this year!

Can you help? We would so appreciate it if you could take a couple of minutes out of your day to buy a few items and drop them off either at Project 29:11 located at 250 E. San Bernardino Rd, Covina or at New Century Realtors-Covina located at 254 E. Rowland Street in Covina. Every little bit will definitely help give these kids the right start to the coming school year.

If you are interested in volunteering at the event or have any questions please contact Sandy Futter at sfutter.p2911@gmail.com or (626)373-2976.
